Women's Golf Moves Into First at WCC Championships

SPOKANE, Washington – Hira Naveed and Momoka Kobori had outstanding rounds to help the Pepperdine women's golf team move into first place following Friday's second round of the West Coast Conference Championships, but it's shaping up to be one of the closest finishes in tournament history.

The Waves have a two-day total of 592 (298-294) at the par-71 Manito Country Club, but three other teams are within four shots. Pepperdine (which began the day in second place, six shots back) now leads BYU by one, host Gonzaga by two and San Francisco by four.

Pepperdine has won 17 WCC titles, far more than any other school, but is looking for its first title since 2015.

PLAYER SCORES
  • Senior Hira Naveed (Perth, Australia) has taken over the individual lead thanks to a 1-under 70 – one of only two below-par rounds that have been recorded over the two days. She has a 2-over 144 (74-70) and has a one-shot lead over two other players. Naveed bogeyed her first hole, but was flawless the rest of the way and posted birdies on 2 and 15.
  • Junior Momoka Kobori (Rangiora, New Zealand) moved up to a tie for fourth thanks to an even-par 71. She's at 146 (75-71). Her round included five birdies, four of which came on the front nine.
  • Freshman Kathrine Chan (Richmond, B.C., Canada) is tied for 11th at 151 (74-77). She had one birdie on Friday.
  • Senior Hannah Haythorne (Honolulu, Hawai'i/IMG Academy) is tied for 15th at 152 (76-76). She had one birdie in the second round.
  • Senior Patricia Wong (Walnut, Calif./Walnut HS) is 19th at 153 (75-78). She had two birdies on Friday.
