WAVEPOINTS
• The Pepperdine men's basketball team is the number eight seed in the upcoming West Coast Conference Championships, presented by University Credit Union, and the Waves' first-round opponent is a familiar one in ninth-seeded Pacific.
• The Tigers own a five-game winning streak against the Waves, including a one-point win in the regular-season finale on Saturday.
• The last time the Waves were swept in the regular season but pulled off a win in the WCC Championships? You'd have to go all the way back to last season, when the Waves accomplished this against Santa Clara.
• A win would put the Waves into the second round and a matchup against PCH Cup rival and fifth-seeded Loyola Marymount on Friday evening.
•
Colbey Ross was named to the All-WCC first team. He's fourth in the WCC in scoring (19.3) and first in assists (7.3). Nationally, he's fourth in assists and third in both free throws made (216) and attempted (253).Â
• Ross has already set or tied nine school records this year, including assists and free throws made in a season, and he's on pace to set a couple more. Last weekend he became the 42nd Wave to score 1,000 career points. He's fifth all-time in assists at Pepperdine already.
•
Kessler Edwards deservedly made the WCC All-Freshman team. Among the conference's first-year players, he ranks first in rebounding, second in scoring and third in blocked shots.
• Jadé Smith has scored in double-figures each of the last four games and is averaging 12.5 points in that time.
•
Kameron Edwards has missed the last five games (foot). Despite various injuries that have limited him to 15 games, he still received All-WCC honorable mention status.
•
Lorenzo Romar has helped elevate the Waves as he begins his second stint as head coach. He recorded his milestone 400th career victory on January 12 at San Diego. He's led the Waves to double-digit wins for the first time since 2015-16, and the Waves have more than doubled last year's win total while tripling the WCC victory total.

PEPPERDINE — Pepperdine boasts a one-of-a-kind athletic department with unprecedented success for a school of its size. The Waves have won NCAA Division I championships in five different men's sports — one of just 18 schools to have accomplished this feat — and nine overall. Of this elite group, Pepperdine has the smallest undergraduate enrollment, is the only school without football and is the only university that has not been affiliated with a "major" conference. The Waves have won a total of 25 team or individual national championships in their history. Pepperdine has also earned the Division I-AAA All-Sports Trophy, an award based on postseason success that's given to the top non-football school, three times (most recently in 2011-12). The Waves have produced 205 conference championships, 318 All-Americans and 53 Olympians. Located in scenic Malibu, California, the university overlooks the Pacific Ocean and its campus and athletic facilities are regularly voted among the nation's most beautiful. Pepperdine, which is affiliated with the Church of Christ, ranks #46 overall on U.S. News and World Report's list of America's best colleges.
