PULLMAN, Wash. – The Pepperdine women's basketball team opened its season on Tuesday, falling to Washington State 85-48.
Barbara Sitanggan led the Waves with nine points.
The Cougars (1-0) got ahead of the Waves (0-1) early and did not let up on the back of a 23-point performance from Borislava Hristova.

- Barbara Sitanggan (Fullerton, Calif./Troy HS) led the Waves with nine points. She shot 3-8 from the field and made the only three-pointer she shot. Sitanggan also tacked on two assists.
- Malia Bambrick (Santa Clarita, Calif./Bishop Alemany HS) had eight points, one assist and one rebound.
- Jayla Ruffus-Milner (North Hills, Calif./Harvard Westlake HS) had seven points off the bench.

Tara Dusharm (Foley, Minn./Foley HS/St. Louis) scored the Waves' first points of the season in the first quarter. After five straight points from the Cougars,
Paige Fecske (Studio City, Calif./Chaminade HS) brought the Waves back to within four. Later in the quarter, Washington State went on a 9-2 run to take a 25-14 lead after 10 minutes of play. The Cougars started the second quarter on an 8-2 run, pushing their lead to 16 points before Sitanggan hit her lone three-pointer to get the Waves back to within 13. Pepperdine scored seven unanswered points at the end of the half before a buzzer-beater three-pointer from the Cougars gave Washington State a 42-27 lead at the half.
The second half was all Cougars. After trading baskets to start the third, Washington State went on a 13-4 run, taking a 59-36 lead halfway through the third quarter. Pepperdine got buckets from Ruffus-Milner at the end of the quarter and trailed 69-47 going into the final 10 minutes of play. Washington State outscored the Waves 16-6 in the final quarter, cementing their 85-48 victory.

- Washington State out-rebounded the Waves 43-27 and 33-10 on defensive rebounds alone.
- The Cougars shot 53.4% from the field as opposed to the Waves' 32.7%.
