PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Waves busted out of the starting gates with a 5-0 lead to start the match, featuring an ace from
Hana Lishman, a block collaboration from
Tarah Wylie and
Hannah Frohling and kills from Frohling,
Rachel Ahrens and
Alli O'Harra. Pacific then gathered a few points, but more smashes from Wylie, Frohling and
Shannon Scully helped the cause e route to a 12-5 lead to force a Tigers' timeout. Out of the break, Wylie came out and plastered and ace on the ground to continue the energy and a block from O'Harra and Scully later in the set pushed the Waves lead to 16-6. UOP went on a five-point run after, but kills from Scully and back-to-back blocks closed from Wylie and Scully closed the set down 25-15.
The second story had a different beginning and end, however, and after Pacific broke into 12-8 led, the Waves were unable to close the gap throughout. The opposition finished the set with a 25-20 set win to tie the score.
Pepperdine regained composure in the third set, and after a short see-saw battle to open, a block from Frohling and O'Harra set the tone and kills from Frohling pushed the Waves to a 15-9 advantage. More Wylie, Ahrens block collaborations continued Pepperdine en route towards a set point, which Ahrens would put away for the 25-20 set win and the match lead heading into the fourth.
In the final set, more smashes from Frohling and uet another block from Ahrens and Wylie pushed the home team to an 11-6 lead. Frohling, Ahrens and Wylie continued with kills and rejections towards a commanding 19-13 lead late in the action. With the energy in the room clearly in the Waves' favor, the home team used it to their advantage, feeding Wylie and Frohling for more kills and forcing a final error from across the net for the 25-18 set win and 3-1 overall victory.
