STOCKTON, Calif. – The #5 Pepperdine men's water polo team could not make up a six-goal first-quarter deficit, as they fell to #3 Pacific on Saturday 15-8.
Chris Dilworth led the Waves with three goals.
The Waves (17-6, 1-1 GCC) suffered their first loss in October, as well as their first Golden Coast Conference loss to the Tigers (13-3, 2-0 GCC).
GAME RECAP
The first quarter of the game was all Tigers, as Pacific's defense was unstoppable, not allowing the Waves a single goal. After eight minutes of play, the Tigers led 6-0. Pacific scored the first goal of the second quarter as well, but
Sean Ferrari (Redwood City, Calif./St. Francis HS) got the Waves on the board. After another Tiger goal,
Curtis Jarvis (Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington Beach HS) scored the final two goals of the half. Pacific led 8-3 after two quarters of play.
Dilworth (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Thousand Oaks HS) started off the second half with his first goal, and after another Pacific goal, Ferrari got his first. The Tigers scored twice more in the quarter to bring their lead to 11-5 with eight minutes to play. Pepperdine got two goals in a row from
Marko Asic (Laguna Niguel, Dana Hills HS) and Dilworth in the early minutes of the fourth. Then, after three straight Pacific goals, Dilworth completed his hat trick with just six seconds left in the game.
