Men's Tennis Concludes ITA Regional Play

MALIBU, Calif. – Evan Shamlian and Tim Zeitvogel of the Pepperdine men's tennis team conluded their runs in the 2019 ITA Southwest Regional on Saturday afternoon at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center. Shamlian finished in the consolation singles semifinals as Zeitvogel finished in the main draw quarterfinals.

Smolicki (UCI) def. Shamlian (PEPP) – 6-2, 2-6, 1-0(8)

RECAP
Sophomore Tim Zeitvogel began his day against a tough opponent in the No. 8-ranked Cukierman from USC, where he eventually saw his demise by the way of a 6-4, 6-4 main draw quarterfinal match.

Freshman Evan Shamlian took Hawaii's Lagev into three sets in the consolation quarterfinals. After dropping the first set 3-6, Shamlian took control and won the second 6-3 before heading into a tie-breaker where he snatched the match 1-0(8).

In his consolation semifinal round, Shamlian saw yet another three-set match against UC-Irvine's Smolicki after winning the first set 6-2 and dropping the second 2-6. That time, the tie-breaker moved in favor of Smolicki, however, as Shamlian bowed out 1-0(8) to complete his regional run.

The Waves will take the upcoming week off in preparation for the Southern California Sectionals set to begin on October 31 and run until November 3.
