Malibu, Calif. – For the second week in a row, a member of the Pepperdine water polo team has taken home the Golden Coast Conference's weekly honors. Marko Asic was named the GCC Player of the Week thanks to his stellar performances last week.
Â
Asic led the team in scoring on the weekend, netting a hat trick in Saturday's win over Cal, marking the first time the Waves have beat the Golden Bears since 2008. He then added another goal in Sunday's 10-9 victory over San Jose State to keep the Waves' record perfect in October.
Â
"Marko has been a great leader in and out of the water this season," said associate head coach Merrill Moses. "He came back from injury last year, as well as being diagnosed with diabetes. He has really fought through a lot and put in the extra work, and it has really showed in the way he is playing. A great deal of our success is because of Marko. He's not only been a great offensive threat, but he has also improved his defense and leadership skills to become one of the team's leaders."
Â
Along with his four goals, he also added two assists to bring his point total to six on the weekend. So far this season, Asic is in the top five of the GCC in goals with 37 and in the top 10 in points with 45.
Â
The Waves have another tough weekend coming up, traveling to UC Irvine for the year's first GCC matchup before hosting #4 USC on Saturday.
