Malibu, Calif. – For the first time this year, a Pepperdine men's water polo player has earned Golden Coast Conference Player of the Week honors, as Balazs Kosa took home the award this week.
Kosa (Budapest, Hungary/Csik Ferenc Altalanos Iskola es Gimnazium) had a phenomenal week, scoring 10 goals and assisting on three more for a total of 13 points. He helped the Waves to victories over Pomona-Pitzer and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the Gary Troyer Tournament in Claremont, Calif. He scored his 10 goals on 16 shots, which was good for a .625 shooting percentage. He has 55 goals and 77 points on the year, which both lead the conference. His 22 assists are also good for second in the GCC.
"Balazs has been a key player for us these past two years and is a big reason why we are as successful as we are," said associate head coach Merrill Moses. "He has really settled in this year and found his role. Because of that, I think that he is playing really freely. I think a big part of his success stems from the depth of our roster. There are a lot of guys in the pool that the other team has to focus on, which leaves Balazs open for a lot of scoring opportunities that he just doesn't miss."
The Waves travel up North this weekend to take on Cal and San Jose State on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
