MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine women's swim and dive team had its first meet of the 2019 calendar year on Saturday, hosting New Mexico for a dual meet. The Lobos defeated the Waves 160-89.

MEET RECAP
The Waves had a good showing in the relays, getting their only victory of the day in the 400 Free relay as Sammie Slater, Amy Griffin, Caroline Boone and Paige Brackett raced to a time of 3:54.77. In the other relay of the day, Haley Bergthold, Trinity Ishikawa, Julianna Chan and Boone took second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:54.00.

"Our ladies raced hard against a very good New Mexico team," Head coach Joe Spahn said." "This was a great way to end our winter training camp and I'm proud of the work our team has put in. Trinity Ishikawa swam very well in her 100 Back and 100 Fly double. Our sprint freestylers (Boone, Griffin, Slater, Bracket) swam well in the 50 and 100 free as well as our 400 free relay. Now it is on to sharpening up going into conference in 38 days."

Ishikawa swam very well in both the 100 back and 100 fly, recording times of 1:00.47 and 1:01.38 respectively. Other solid times included Boone's second place finish in the 50 free (24.82), Bergthold's second place 200 IM (2:20.28) and Khloe McCarthy's third place 500 free (5:27.45)

The Waves are back in action on Saturday and Sunday, January 12 and 13 as they travel to Los Angeles to take on LMU and Alaska Fairbanks in the Lion's Cup.
