Waves Win Third Straight WCC Contest

MALIBU, Calif.— Thanks to 22 points from Yasmine Robinson-Bacote, the Pepperdine women's basketball team got its third straight West Coast Conference victory on Saturday, defeating San Francisco at home, 69-50. Malia Bambrick and Barbara Sitanggan each scored at least 13 points.
 
BIG WAVES
  • Yasmine Robinson-Bacote (Hillside, N.J./Hillside HS) shot better than 50 percent from the field, including 3-4 from three to score 22 points. She also led the team in rebounds with eight and blocks with two.
  • Malia Bambrick (Santa Clarita, Calif./Bishop Alemany HS) continued her hot streak, scoring ten or more points in three straight games. She shot 6-9 from the field and 2-3 from three to score 14 points.
  • Barbara Sitanggan (Fullerton, Calif./Troy HS) had 13 points, and led the team in assists, with five.
KEY STATS
  • The Waves shot 41.2% from the field, compared to 35.1% from the Dons.
  • Pepperdine was 5-10 from beyond the arc, while San Francisco only made one three-point shot.
  • The Waves dominated defensively, forcing 16 turnovers and scoring 22 points from turnovers. The Dons forced just six turnovers all game.
GAME RECAP
The Waves set the tone early, scoring the first basket, and never giving up the lead. Robinson-Bacote had 11 points in the first quarter alone, and made two three-point shots. Bambrick had six points in the first, all six from three point shots, helping lead the Waves to a 31-13 lead after ten minutes of play.

Pepperdine took its biggest lead of the game in the second quarter, after a basket from Sitanggan gave the Waves a 23-point lead. Eventually, the Waves went into halftime with a 46-27 lead.

The third quarter was much of the same, with the Waves scoring 12 points and holding the Dons to 10, taking a 58-37 lead into the final 10 minutes of play. In the fourth, the Waves kept the Dons from making a comeback, cementing the Waves' third WCC victory in a row.
