Failla, Iamachkine Advance to Riviera/ITA Qualifying Draw

MALIBU, Calif. – Jessica Failla and Anastasia Iamachkine advanced to the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships qualifying draw after defeating their opponents from North Carolina with an 8-6 doubles win in the final round of the pre-qualifying draw at Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center on Sunday. The qualifying draw begins on Tuesday, October 2 in Pacific Palisades, Calif.

PLAYS
The Waves opened the day in doubles as Jessica Failla and Anastasia Iamachkine took the court against #52 Shweta Sangwan and Julia Eshet of Oregon. After pulling ahead 3-1 to open, the momentum was in the Waves' court and Pepperdine continued on to an 8-5 victory.
After the first round of doubles, Pepperdine's junior Adrijana Lekaj took the court for singles, prepared to face Texas's Tijana Spasojevic, a competitor ranked #9 in the Oracle/ITA newcomer/freshman rankings. She and her opposition went point-for-point for the 2-2 mark, but the Longhorn collected a few points shortly after to take the first set 6-2. She followed up with a 6-1 win in the second set to win the overall.
In the second doubles-match of the day for the Waves, Failla and Iamachkine faced Cameron Morra and Chloe Ouellet-Pizer of North Carolina. The duo worked ahead 3-1 early to gain the early advantage, and although the Tarheels tied the set at 4-4, Pepperdine remained in control of the action. In the final moments, Failla and Iamachkine once again pulled ahead and ended with an 8-6 win to advance to the qualifying round.
QUALIFYING ROUND

RIVIERA/ITA ALL-AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIPS
This is the 34th-consecutive year of the tournament that invites the nation's top Division I women's players to compete. In addition to vying for the All-American national title, players will be competing to secure a berth into the 2018 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, which takes place November 7-11, in Surprise, Ariz. Singles quarterfinalists, consolations singles champion and finalist, along with doubles semifinalists and consolation doubles champion and finalist advance to the end of fall national championship.
