Waves Up to Second Place at Golfweek Event

WOLCOTT, Colorado – After a second straight 1-under 287, the Pepperdine women's golf team has moved up to second place following Tuesday's second round at the Golfweek Conference Challenge.

The Waves have won this event four times in its nine-year history. Championship number five may be hard to come by, as UCLA has opened up a 13-shot lead at the par-72 Red Sky Golf Club. The Bruins are at a 15-under 561 while the Waves have a 2-under 574 (287-287).

PLAYER SCORES

  • Senior Hira Naveed (Perth, Australia), who is coming off a win at the season-opening McGuire Invitational, is in position to perhaps make a run at another title. • Junior Momoka Kobori (Rangiora, New Zealand) is tied for 11th with an even-par 144 (70-74). She also had four birdies on Tuesday.
  • Senior Patricia Wong (Walnut, Calif./Walnut HS) moved up to a tie for 13th after a 1-under 71 gave her a two-day total of 145 (74-71). She birdied seven holes during the second round, four on the front nine and three on the back in a four-hole span.
  • Senior Hannah Haythorne (Honolulu, Hawai'i/IMG Academy) is tied for 19th place at 146 (72-74). She posted three birdies.
