May 8, 2018 Second-Round Results
SAN FRANCISCO, California " Hira Naveed posted one of the best rounds in Pepperdine women's golf postseason history and the Waves played themselves back into contention for a spot in the NCAA Championships with an outstanding second round at the NCAA San Francisco Regional on Tuesday.
Thanks to a 3-under 285 " the best score of the day by any team at the par-72 TPC Harding Park " the Waves will head into the final round in a tie for ninth place but just two shots back of sixth place. The top six teams will advance to the NCAA Championships.
Naveed tied Pepperdine's NCAA postseason record with a 5-under 67, which has moved her into first place overall. Even if the Waves don't advance as a team, Naveed could qualify as an individual by being one of the top three finishers from non-advancing teams.
Pepperdine has a two-day total of a 6-over 582 (297-285). Today's team score of 3-under matches the Waves' third-best ever at a regional. The Waves were in 13th place and 10 shots back of sixth place at the start of the second round.
Pepperdine, which is the #13 seed, is playing in its 20th consecutive NCAA Regional and is attempting to qualify for the NCAA Championships for the 13th time.
