First-Round Results

SAN FRANCISCO, California " Momoka Kobori and Hira Naveed had solid first rounds for the Pepperdine women's golf team at the NCAA San Francisco Regional on Monday, but the Waves have some catching up to do in the team standings.

Needing a top-six finish to advance to the NCAA Championships, Pepperdine is tied for 13th after a first-round 297 at the par-72 TPC Harding Park. Three teams are currently tied for fourth place at 287, 10 strokes ahead of the Waves.

The Waves were in good shape for a while, as their four scoring players were a combined 1-over through the first 12 holes. But they had only one birdie combined on holes 13-18 and played them at 8-over.

Pepperdine, which is the #13 seed, is playing in its 20th consecutive NCAA Regional and is attempting to qualify for the NCAA Championships for the 13th time.

PLAYER SCORES

• Sophomore Momoka Kobori (Rangiora, New Zealand) is tied for 10th place after a 1-under 71. She had a pair of birdies that came on consecutive holes, the par-4 7th and the par-3 8th.
• Junior Hira Naveed (Perth, Australia) is tied for 25th after an even-par 72. She had a team-best three birdies during her round.
• Senior Tatiana Wijaya (Jakarta, Indonesia) and senior Katherine Zhu (Vancouver, B.C.) are both tied for 69th place with 77s. Zhu had one birdie.
• Junior Hannah Haythorne (Honolulu, Hawai'i/IMG Academy) is tied for 76th at 78.

UP NEXT

Tuesday's second round will begin at 9:05 a.m. for the Waves on the 10th tee. They'll be paired with California and Long Beach State. The third and final round is Wednesday.
