Waves Finish Up at Western Intercollegiate

SANTA CRUZ, California " Joshua McCarthy and RJ Manke both tied for 20th place to lead the Pepperdine men's golf team as play wrapped up at the Western Intercollegiate on Sunday.
The Waves came in 10th place overall with a two-day total of 1,067 (361-350-356) in the play-six, count-five event at the par-70 Pasatiempo Golf Club. All nine teams that finished ahead of the Waves were part of Golfstat's top 50, including six of them in the top 25. The Waves are ranked 25th by Golfweek/Sagarin and 32nd by Golfstat.

- Sophomore Joshua McCarthy (Danville, Calif./De La Salle HS) recorded his sixth straight top-20 finish. He had an even-par 210 (67-74-69). McCarthy had four birdies during his 1-under 70 on Sunday.
- Freshman RJ Manke (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Preparatory School) notched his first career top-20 finish. He had an even-par 210 (72-70-68), improving by two strokes each round. Manke had a team-high 13 birdies over the three rounds and played the par-5 holes at a combined 6-under. His final-round 2-under 68 included six birdies, two on the final two holes.
- Junior Roy Cootes (Rolling Hills, Calif./Palos Verdes HS) tied for 37th place at 214 (72-66-76). His second-round 4-under 66 was the Waves' best of the tournament and included four birdies and zero bogeys.
- Freshman Austin Murphy (Morgan Hill, Calif./Bellarmine College Preparatory) tied for 50th at 217 (74-73-70). His scores improved each round, and his even-par 70 to end things included three birdies.
- Sophomore Clay Feagler (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Dana Hills HS) tied for 66th at 221 (76-72-73).
- Senior Anthony Cecere (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./St. Margaret's Episcopal School) tied for 86th at 229 (79-69-81).
Sahith Theegala, last year's WCC co-Player of the Year and an All-American and the team's leader in scoring average this season, sat out this weekend's tournament with a wrist injury.
