WESTLAKE VILLAGE, California " Clay Feagler, Anthony Cecere and Joshua McCarthy all placed in the top 10 and the Pepperdine men's golf team took second at its own Southwestern Invitational on Tuesday.
The Waves shot a solid 876 (294-287-295) over two days with some difficult weather conditions at the par-72 North Ranch Country Club, but there was no stopping UCLA, the highest-ranked team in the field, which shot 856 and won by 20 strokes.
After a two-hour frost delay helped prevent teams from being able to finish the second round on Monday, teams were greeted by another hour-and-a-half frost delay on Tuesday. In addition to temperatures that may not have reached the 50s, there was a brief hailstorm in the morning and more rain in the afternoon. Teams played almost until dark again on Tuesday but eventually finished the third round with time to spare.
Pepperdine has finished first, second and second at its first three tournaments of the spring. Both Feagler and McCarthy posted their third top-10 showing in the three events.
