Feagler Wins Prestige, Waves Place Second

LA QUINTA, California " Clay Feagler earned his first college victory and the Pepperdine men's golf team recorded a second-place finish, ending up just one shot behind second-ranked Oklahoma State, at the Prestige at PGA West on Wednesday.
Feagler's 5-under 66 gave him a two-day total of a 7-under 135, putting him one shot better than Oregon's Norman Xiong.
The Waves had the best round of the day, a 1-under 283, to finish with an even-par 568 at the par-71 Greg Norman Course at PGA West. They posted wins over the likes of #12 LSU, #17 Stanford and #18 USC.
Extremely high winds forced the cancellation of play on Monday, so it ended up just being a two-round tournament.

- Sophomore Clay Feagler (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Dana Hills HS) began the day tied for fourth place but posted the best round of the tournament. He was at even-par through eight holes but then ran off four straight birdies between nine and 12. His birdie on 17 proved to be the difference. He shared the tournament lead with a total of 10 birdies.
- Junior Sahith Theegala (Chino Hills, Calif./Diamond Bar HS) tied for seventh place with a 1-under 141 (69-72). He led all players with 29 pars over the two days. It was his fifth top-10 finish in seven tournaments this season.
- Sophomore Joshua McCarthy (Danville, Calif./De La Salle HS) gave the Waves three in the top 10 as he moved up to a tie for 10th place with a 1-over 143 (73-70). His 1-under round included two birdies on back-to-back holes on 14 and 15.
- Freshman Austin Murphy (Morgan Hill, Calif./Bellarmine College Preparatory) tied for 42nd at 149 (74-75) and junior Roy Cootes (Rolling Hills, Calif./Palos Verdes HS) tied for 68th at 154 (76-78).

Pepperdine hosts its second tournament of the spring, the Southwestern Invitational, next Monday and Tuesday (Feb. 26-27) at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village. The Waves are the defending champion of this event.
