PROVO, Utah " Brigham Young came out aggressive from the start against the Pepperdine women's basketball team on Thursday night at the Marriott Center, eventually working towards a 78-43 West Coast Conference victory.

The Cougars (15-11, 10-5 WCC) picked up the lead in the opening seconds of the first quarter against the Waves (9-16, 5-10) and would not relinquish it throughout.

  • Yasmine Robinson-Bacote was good for double digits with 12-points on four from the field and a 4-4 output from the free throw line. She added five boards.
  • Monique Andriuolo led the Waves with eight rebounds and was second on the team with seven points.
  • Paige Fecske and Tylinn Carter each marked six points, while Fecske added five boards and two assists and steals and Carter put up four rebounds.
  • Hayley Duren posted five rebounds and points as well as two blocks and Kim Jacobs added three assists.

BYU opened the game with a 10-0 run and continued to roll from there. The Waves marked their first bucket of the day at the 06:41 mark in the first quarter as Yasmine Robinson-Bacote put up a good jumper. Pepperdine brought the deficit within eight at the 12-4 mark, but that was as close as the Waves would get to closing the gap. BYU ended the first period with a 23-7 lead.

The Cougars opened the second quarter with another 9-0 run before Paige Fecske tabbed a three-pointer to counter. The momentum continued for Brigham Young, however, as the team closed the half with a 39-17 advantage.

The third quarter opened with a little more back-and-forth action, as Robinson-Bacote put up a quick jumper and a pair of free throws early, but BYU continued in the same fashion as the first half with a 17-4 run late en route to a 61-30 lead heading into the final quarter.

In the fourth, the Waves scored first for the first quarter in the game with a free throw from Hayley Duren. The opposition was fueled by the advantage, though, and put up a 17-13 lead in the fourth to complete the 78-43 WCC victory.
