Waves Fall to Gonzaga at Home

MALIBU, Calif.— The Pepperdine women's basketball team fell to Gonzaga 79-54, their first West Coast Conference loss of the season, on Monday. Yasmine Robinson-Bacote and Rose Pflug each had 14 points for the Waves, leading the team.
The Waves (7-5, 1-1 WCC) led for much of the first quarter, but the Bulldogs (13-1, 2-0 WCC) pulled away in the second half.
BIG WAVES
Pepperdine got off to a good start, leading the Bulldogs for six minutes of the first quarter thanks in part to five points from Malia Bambrick (Santa Clarita, Calif./Bishop Alemany HS). Gonzaga eventually retook the lead, going into the second quarter ahead 17-13 over the Waves. In the second quarter, the Bulldogs pulled ahead by as many as 12 points with three and a half minutes left, but the Waves made a couple jumpers down the stretch, and trailed Gonzaga 37-28 going into half time.
Gonzaga opened the second half on a 9-0 run before Pepperdine pulled to within 13 points with 6 minutes left in the half. However, Gonzaga got hot and took a 23-point lead into the final 10 minutes. The final 10 minutes were very similar to the third quarter, with Gonzaga building a 25-point lead, their largest of the game, defeating the Waves at home.

The Waves travel to Provo, Utah for a matchup with BYU on Jan. 3 before heading to San Diego on Jan. 5.

- Rose Pflug (Eugene, Ore./Sunset HS) also had 14 points, her second game in a row scoring in double digits. She shot 2-5 from beyond the arc.
- Barbara Sitanggan (Fullerton, Calif./Troy HS) had 9 points, a team-leading eight rebounds, and four assists.
