Men's Basketball Beaten at Oregon State

CORVALLIS, Oregon – The Pepperdine men's basketball team got off to a good start in its Monday night road game at Oregon State, but the Beavers would eventually post an 82-67 victory.
 
The Waves (6-6) led early, but the Beavers (7-3) shot the ball well and blocked 10 shots on the defensive end.
 
BIG WAVES
  • Sophomore guard Colbey Ross (Aurora, Colo./Eaglecrest HS) had 15 points and eight rebounds. He's scored in double-figures in all 12 games this season.
  • Senior guard Eric Cooper Jr. (Ontario, Calif./St. Anthony HS/Nevada) also scored 15 points and made three three-pointers.
  • Sophomore guard Jade' Smith (Oakland, Calif./St. Joseph Notre Dame HS) had 11 points and six rebounds.
KEY STATS 
  • Oregon State shot 62.5% in the first half and 45.8% in the second for 54.2% overall.
  • Pepperdine finished at 36.7% overall (40.6% in the first half and 32.1% in the second).
  • The Waves did well to force 20 turnovers and take a 28-16 edge in points off turnovers. Pepperdine committed 13 turnovers.
  • OSU had a 38-24 rebounding edge.
  • Oregon State had five players in double-figures, led by Tres Tinkle with 21 and Stephen Thompson Jr. with 20. Kylor Kelley set an Oregon State single-game record with nine blocked shots.
PLAY BY PLAY
 
The Waves led for the first six minutes of the game, including a five-point lead at 8-3 after a Cooper Jr. three-pointer. The Waves' last lead was at 18-17 after another Cooper Jr. three-pointer. Tied at 20, the Beavers scored seven straight points. Pepperdine closed the gap to three at 34-31 after a Cooper Jr. three-point play and a Ross three-pointer, but Oregon State eventually went into halftime with a 46-36 lead.
 
At 51-39 four minutes into the second half, the Beavers then scored the next 10 points, holding the Waves scoreless for more than four minutes, making the score 61-39. OSU's largest lead was 23 and the Waves got no closer than the final 15-point margin the rest of the second half.
 
NOTABLES 
  • Junior forward Kameron Edwards (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Etiwanda HS), last season's top scorer, missed his eighth game in a row and his ninth of the season due to injury.
  • Oregon State improved to 5-0 all-time against Pepperdine.
