Waves Add Kuczer, Takamura to Spring Roster

MALIBU, Calif. – Head Coach Per Nilsson and Assistant Coach Lauren Embree added Daria Kuczer and Satsuki Takamura to the Pepperdine women's tennis team for the 2019 spring season, as announced on Friday afternoon.

"We are so excited about the addition of Daria and Satsuki to the Wave family," said Nilsson. "They both portray the values and qualities we look for in a student-athlete. We can't wait to help them grow both on and off the court."

Daria Kuczer joins the Waves after having earned a career-high juniors ITF ranking of #86 and a Tennis Europe-high ranking of #63. She has been a Polish National Champions in singles, doubles and mixed doubles 11-separate times throughout different years and categories. She won two bronze medals in singles and doubles at the 2017 European Junior Championships in Switzerland and has participated in two Junior Grand Slam tournaments in 2016 with the Australian and U.S. Opens.Â

"My main goal is to be one of the best tennis players in the world and I think that Pepperdine will be able to help develop my athleticism," said Kuczer. "Learning is extremely important to me and at Pepperdine I know I will be able to get a great education. I think Pepperdine offers the best balance in the nation between very high tennis levels, coaching levels and educational levels … And of course, Pepperdine has one of the most beautiful campuses in the world."
Kuczer has had an array of success throughout the ITF Tour, including singles final appearances in Bulgaria, Qatar and Uruguay, and won the G3 Londrina Juniors Cup singles title in 2015 in Brazil. She has also had many doubles final appearances throughout her junior competitive years, including taking the WTA doubles titles at the 15K Mragowo in Poland and 15K doubles title in Slovakia in 2017.

Originally from Szczecin, Poland, she graduated from XIII Liceum OgólnoksztaÅ‚cÄ…ce w Szczecinie in 2018. She is the daughter of Lucyna Malgorzata Kuczer and Jaroslaw Wieslaw Kuczer and her one older brother, David, played #1 singles and doubles for the SMU men's tennis team.

Satsuki Takamura will join the Waves with a career-high WTA singles rnaking of #621 and doubles ranking of #1265. She has amassed a 57-44 overall career record in the ATP/WTA and ITF Pro Circuit main draws.

"I chose Pepperdine because it has a great environment for tennis, along with excellent academics," said Takamura. "The beautiful location was an attraction as well."

After many professional and juniors' tournaments, she has made finalist appearances at 10K Prokuplje, Serbia in 2015, 15K Hammamet, Tunisia in 2017 and 15K Banja Luka, Bosnia in 2018.

Originally from Saitama, Japan, she graduated from Yushi International HS in 2018. Takamura has spent the last six years living in Serbia. The daughter of Yasuhiro Takamura and Satoko Takamura has one younger sibling, Hideka.
