FAIRFAX, California – RJ Manke (10-under today, 21-under overall) and the Pepperdine men's golf team (22-under today, 52-under overall) set multiple school records on Tuesday as the Waves won the Alister MacKenzie Invitational, while Manke claimed medalist honors for his first college victory.
Pepperdine's previous team records were 18-under for 18 holes (2007 Turtle Bay Intercollegiate) and 33-under for 54 holes (2015 Alister MacKenzie Invitational) but the Waves bettered both with a 22-under 262 today, good for a 52-under 800 (270-268-262) overall. The Waves entered the final round at the par-71 Meadow Club six shots behind host California but ended up with an 11-stroke victory.
Manke (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) became the first player in Pepperdine history to shoot a round of 10-under (the previous record was a 9-under 63). His 61 today included nine birdies, an eagle and just one bogey. He was at 6-under though 14 but eagled 15 and ended his round with birdies on 17 and 18.
He finished with a 21-under 192 (65-66-61), bettering the 20-under set by Frederick Wedel at the 2014 Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational. Manke entered the final round in a tie for third place, two shots out of the lead, but ended up winning by four strokes.
Manke led all players with 22 birdies overall. He was the tournament's top player on par-4s (11-under) and tied for the best on par-5s (9-under).
On Monday, the Waves also set a team record for the best score after 36 holes (30-under). The Waves' marks for 54-hole team score and 18-hole and 54-hole individual scores were also Alister MacKenzie Invitational records.

Michael Beard said: "It was great watching them do their thing. I never got the feeling that when they were 1- or 2-under that they were content with that. They kept trying to make more birdies. RJ actually wasn't hitting it that great during the practice round. But he got into a rhythm in the first round and kept going. The final round, you could tell him where to hit it, and he hit it right there. It was ridiculous. He was in the zone. It was really impressive. It'll be good to see what this win does for the team. The last three years, we've started the season poorly. So to do this early on, it's a good thing. To be able to recall a good tournament or a good round, that's always a good thing in golf."
RJ Manke said: "It's pretty surreal. I just went about my business, I was hitting shots close and putts were going in. I made a birdie putt on 18 and one of my teammates asked me what I shot, and I didn't know. It was an out-of-mind experience. I can remember a couple of times in my golf career where I had moments like this, but never to this extent, obviously. If I hit a good putt, I knew it was going in. You can only hit the ball so well, it comes down to putting, and my putter got hot the last two days. This makes me optimistic about where we're going this fall, and into next spring. This shows me that I can compete with D1 players and will give me confidence moving forward, something to look back on and know that I have the potential to put up good numbers."

Pepperdine's third tournament of the fall is Baylor's Royal Oaks Intercollegiate, set for October 22-23 in Dallas, Texas.
