Men's Golf Sets 36-Hole Record at MacKenzie

FAIRFAX, California – Led by RJ Manke, the Pepperdine men's golf team set a school record with a score of 30-under through 36 holes on Monday at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational and the Waves will be looking for both a team title and the 54-hole record on Tuesday.

Pepperdine is in second place after firing a 14-under 270 and a 16-under 268 at the par-71 Meadow Club. Those now rank as the fifth and third best 18-hole scores, respectively, in program history. The Waves are at 538, six shots behind host California.

The team's previous 36-hole record of 24-under was set at this same course in 2016. The 54-hole record of 33-under was also set at the Meadow Club in 2015.

- Sophomore RJ Manke (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) had the best day of his young college career. He's tied for third place with an 11-under 131 (65-66). The 11-under ties the third-best 36-hole score by a Pepperdine player. His career-best 6-under 65 in the morning had six birdies and zero bogeys. His 5-under 66 in the afternoon had seven birdies and one double-bogey. He heads into Tuesday two shots out of the lead.
- Junior Joshua McCarthy (Danville, Calif./De La Salle HS) turned in a pair of below-par rounds and is tied for 13th place with a 5-under 137 (69-68). Six of his 10 birdies came in the afternoon and he also had an eagle in his morning round.
- Junior Clay Feagler (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Dana Hills HS) is also tied for 13th with a 5-under 137 (71-66). His even-par first round had two birdies and an eagle, and he came back with six birdies and an eagle in the afternoon.
- Senior Roy Cootes (Rolling Hills, Calif./Palos Verdes HS) is tied for 21st with a 3-under 139 (71-68). He had 10 birdies on the day and an eagle in each round.
- Playing as an individual, sophomore Austin Murphy (Morgan Hill, Calif./Bellarmine College Prep) is tied for 38th at 143 (72-71). He had six birdies on Monday.
- Freshman Joe Highsmith (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) is tied for 47th at 144 (65-79). He had a remarkable morning round at 6-under with six birdies and an eagle, but couldn't carry that momentum into the afternoon.
