MALIBU, Calif. – Chris Dilworth of the 11th ranked Pepperdine men's water polo team has been named Golden Coast Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the conference on Thursday. This is the first GCC Player of the Week for Pepperdine this year, and the first career honor for Dilworth.
Dilworth (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Thousand Oaks HS) has been stellar for the Waves thus far in 2018. He leads the team in goals (31), points (36), shooting percentage (.646) and drawn exclusions (22). He is also fifth in the conference standings in goals scored.
This past week, Dilworth had four goals on four shots in the Waves' loss to #4 Cal, as well as drawing three ejections. One of six seniors, Dilworth has stepped into his leadership role with gusto, both in and out of the pool.
"Chris has had a great start to our season and has been a dominant player on offense for our team," Associate Head Coach Merrill Moses said of Dilworth. "He leas our team in goals and exclusions drawn. He is one of our team captains and has been a great leader in and out of the water for our young team. We believe he is one of the best centers in the country and are looking forward to him getting stronger throughout the season."
Dilworth and the Waves will be back in action this week, traveling to Long Beach State for the first GCC matchup of the year on Friday, followed by a trip to Claremont, Calif. for the Gary Troyer Tournament on Saturday.
