CARROLLTON, Texas – Clay Feagler of the Pepperdine men's golf team won his third tournament in the last nine months as he tied for first place at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate on Tuesday.
After teams completed a darkness-delayed second round on Tuesday morning, Feagler was tied for sixth place and seven shots out of first. But his 4-under 66 in the third round was enough to raise him into a tie atop the leaderboard with Oklahoma State's Viktor Hovland and Matthew Wolff with 4-under 206s.
The Waves finished in fifth place overall with a two-day total of 870 (293-281-296) at the par-70 Maridoe Golf Club. Three of the four teams that finished ahead of Pepperdine were in Golfstat's top 20, including #1 Oklahoma State. The Waves entered the tournament at #4.
After winning The Prestige at PGA West and the West Coast Conference Championships last spring, Feagler is now just one shy of the school record of four wins, held by Jim Johnson and Kevin Marsh.

QUOTABLE
Clay Feagler said: "I thought I had no chance this morning, so I just went out and played. I felt like my game was pretty good this week. I'm not sure what to think, I'm excited but I'm not sure what happened. To win at 4-under is kind of shocking, I thought it was going to take 8-under or something. My first couple of tournaments this year, my iron game was good, getting up and down if I was in a bad spot. This week I drove it a lot better and putted a lot better, and it clearly showed. I'm just going to keep going out there and continue what I'm doing, playing to my strengths and having fun."
UP NEXT
Pepperdine's fourth of five fall tournaments is this weekend at Hawaii's Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational from Sunday through Tuesday (October 28-30).
