PALO ALTO, California – Hira Naveed has taken a share of the lead and the Pepperdine women's golf team is tied for third place against an excellent field at the conclusion of Friday's first round at the Stanford Intercollegiate.
The Waves shot a 4-over 288 at the par-71 Stanford Golf Course. They're tied with Northwestern and four shots back of the host Cardinal. USC has a 12-shot lead. The Waves are currently ahead of six Pac-12 squads, including top-10 teams UCLA and Arizona State.

- Senior Hira Naveed (Perth, Australia) is one of five players who opened with a 4-under 67. After an early bogey, she was 1-over through eight holes, but then recorded five birdies the rest of the way. Naveed has already won once this fall at the McGuire Invitational.
- Senior Hannah Haythorne (Honolulu, Hawai'i/IMG Academy) had an impressive 2-under 69 that has her in a tie for sixth place. She had four birdies on the day, three of which came in her final seven holes.
- Junior Momoka Kobori (Rangiora, New Zealand) is tied for 50th with a 75. She had two birdies.
- Freshman Sifan He (Shanghai, China) is tied for 68th with a 77. She had one birdie.
- Senior Patricia Wong (Walnut, Calif./Walnut HS) is tied for 71st with a 78. She had two birdies.
UP NEXT
The second round is Saturday – the Waves are paired with San Diego State and Harvard and they'll tee off on #1 at 7:30 a.m. – while the third and final round is Sunday.
