Waves Down Pacific in MPSF Invite

PALO ALTO, Calif. – A five-goal performance from senior Chris Dilworth of the No. 8 Pepperdine men's water polo team led the way to a 13-9 victory over No. 5 Pacific at the MPSF Invite on Saturday. Mate Toth also had a hat trick in the game.
The Waves (11-8) also played UCLA on Saturday, falling 10-0 to the Bruins.
GAME RECAP
In the game against Pacific, the Waves came out firing on all cylinders, with Dilworth (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Thousand Oaks HS) scoring the first two goals of the game. After two goals from the Tigers, Toth (Balatonalmadi, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Boarding School) gave the Waves a one-goal lead. Sam Paur (Poway, Calif./Poway HS) also got in on the action, scoring for the Waves in the final two minutes of the quarter to re-take the lead after yet another Tiger equalizer. The Waves led 4-3 after the first period of play.
After Pacific got even in the beginning of the second quarter, Dilworth completed his hat trick to give the Waves the lead back. Paur then scored again, with the Waves and Tigers going goal for goal, to give the Waves the 6-5 lead before Dilworth and Toth go back-to-back, giving the Waves an 8-6 lead at the half.
Curtis Jarvis (Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington Beach HS) got in on the action to start the third quarter, but his was the only goal the Waves got. The Tigers closed the gap to one goal as the Waves led 9-8 going into the final period of play.
The final quarter was all Waves, as they started the quarter with three straight goals from Dilworth, Sean Ferrari (Redwood City, Calif./St. Francis HS) and Toth. Jacob Watson (Westlake Village, Calif./Oaks Christian HS) got the Waves' final goal, sealing the 13-9 victory.
