MALIBU, Calif. – Mate Toth of the #8 Pepperdine men's water polo team has been named Golden Coast Conference Player of the Week, the conference announced on Thursday. Toth had a stellar weekend for the Waves, leading them to three straight wins.
Toth had nine goals in three games, averaging a hat trick, leading the Waves to a win over GCC rival Long Beach State, as well as two wins at the Gary Troyer Tournament over Pomona-Pitzer and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. He also assisted on a goal, giving him 10 points for the weekend.
A key defensive player for the Waves, Toth added three steals to his team-leading total, bringing him up to 19 steals on the season, good for second in the conference.
"Mate has been a key part to the success of our season so far," said Associate Head Coach Merrill Moses. "He is the leader of our defense and leads our team in steals. He has been playing extremely well on offense as well and has been scoring big goals for the team. We believe that he is one of the best all-around players in the country."
Toth and the Waves are back in action beginning on Friday at the MPSF Invite in Palo Alto, Calif., Oct. 12-14.
