Waves Finish Bruno Classic With Four Wins

MALIBU, Calif.-- The No. 7 Pepperdine Men's water polo team closed out the 2017 Bruno classic with a win against No. 14 Bucknell and an overtime win against the host No. 15 Brown on Sunday. Marko Asic and Mark Urban had goals for the Waves in the overtime period to boost the Waves to their fourth victory in a row to start the year.

In the final game of the tournament for the Waves, the team took on the host, Brown University. The game turned out to be a thriller, with a goal in the final seconds of regulation coming from the Bears to push the game into overtime. Junior Marko Asic scored a goal in the first overtime period, adding to his two earlier in the game, netting him his fourth hat trick of the tournament. In the second overtime period, senior Mark Urban gave the Waves a two goal cushion with his third goal of the game, which was all they needed to complete the 4-0 start. Sean Thomas, Chris Dilworth, Justin Cowan, and Coleman Carpenter also got goals for the Waves in the 11-9 victory.

Both Zack Rhodes and Philippe Marco played outstanding between the posts, with Marco coming in with one minute remaining in the third. Rhodes had five saves on the day, and Marco grabbed 4.

In the Waves' game against Bucknell, the team once again came out firing, continuing the trend from Saturday's games. The Waves scored six goals in the first period, with goals coming from Thomas, Urban, Mate Toth, Dilworth, and Asic. Kenneth Keller added one in the second period, along with Asic's second of three for the game. The second half was more of the same. Goals from Urban, George Mooney, Justin Cowan, Keller, and Toth gave the Waves the solid 15-9 victory. Urban lead the team in scoring with 4 goals.
