First-Round Results

WOLCOTT, Colorado " The Pepperdine women's golf team is off to a good start in search of a fifth title in nine years at the Golfweek Conference Challenge, as the Waves are just one shot out of first place after Monday's first round.

Pepperdine fired a 2-over 292 at the par-72 Red Sky Golf Club, tied with Michigan and one stroke behind defending champion San Diego State.

The Waves won the inaugural event in 2009 and posted three straight victories from 2012-14.

PLAYER SCORES

• Junior Hira Naveed (Perth, Australia) is tied for second place after an opening-round 2-under 70. She's one shot away from the individual lead. She had a total of six birdies on the day, five of them coming on the front nine.
• Senior Tatiana Wijaya (Jakarta, Indonesia) and sophomore Momoka Kobori (Rangiora, New Zealand) are both tied for 13th place after even-par 72s. All three of Wijaya's birdies came on the front nine. Kobori had two birdies and her only miscue was one double-bogey.
• Junior Hannah Haythorne (Honolulu, Hawai'i/IMG Academy) is tied for 44th after a 76. She had three birdies.
• Senior Katherine Zhu (Vancouver, B.C.) is tied for 50th with a 77.

UP NEXT

The second round is on Tuesday and the third and final round is on Wednesday.
