Waves Place 8th in MPSF Invite

LOS ANGELES, Calif. " The No. 9 Pepperdine men's water polo team fell just short against No. 10 UC Irvine, 8-7, on Saturday in the seventh-place game of the MPSF Invite. The Waves took the Anteaters into sudden-victory overtime, where Irvine scored with 45 seconds left to take the game. Marko Asic and Mark Urban each had two goals for the Waves on the day.

In an even match all day, the score was tied 6-6 at the end of four quarters, sending the game into overtime. The Anteaters got a goal in the first overtime period, and in the second, Kenneth Keller (Long Beach, Calif./Los Alamitos HS) scored with 50 seconds left to send the game into sudden-victory. The Waves' defense held strong until Irvine got a goal with 46 seconds left in the period, ending the game. In regulation, Marko Asic (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Dana Hills HS) scored twice for the Waves, his 40th on the season, leading the Waves. Mark Urban (Budapest, Hungary/Diablo Valley College) Also had two goals for the Waves, including the equalizer in the final seconds of regulation. Mate Toth (Balatonalmadi, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Boarding School) and Sam Paur (Poway, Calif./Poway HS) also scored for the Waves on the day.
