Sept. 23, 2017 LOS ANGELES, Calif. " The No. 9 Pepperdine men's water polo team played two hard-fought games on Saturday, a 12-10 loss to top-ranked California and a 12-4 loss against No. 5 Pacific. Chris Dilworth had five goals on the day, leading the Waves.

In the first day of the game, against Cal, the Waves came up just short in their comeback attempt, falling to the Bears, 12-10. Chris Dilworth (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Thousand Oaks HS) led the Waves with a hat trick on the day. Marko Asic (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Dana Hills HS) and Mate Toth (Balatonalmadi, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Boarding School) had two apiece, and Kenneth Keller (Long Beach, Calif./Los Alamitos HS) and Mark Urban (Budapest, Hungary/Diablo Valley College) each tacked on a goal as well. Pepperdine keeper Zack Rhodes (Palm Desert, Calif/Palm Desert HS) had 12 saves in the game.

In the second game of the day, the Waves got off to a slow start, only getting a single goal from Dilworth in the first quarter. He followed it up with a goal in the second, but the Waves still trailed by four at the half. In the second half, the Tigers would not let up. The Waves did get three more goals, two from Urban and one from Jens Cole (Malibu, Calif./Malibu HS), but could not get the offense going strong enough to mount a comeback. Rhodes had 10 saves in the game.
