MALIBU, Calif. -- The No. 8 Pepperdine men's water polo team got off to a hot start in the Aggie Roundup hosted by UC Davis in Davis, Calif. by defeating San Jose State 10-4, and Redlands 13-1. Marko Asic had six goals on the day, leading the Waves.

In their first game of the day, the Waves took on the Spartans of San Jose State. The first quarter was an even match for both teams, with each scoring twice. Junior Asic (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Dana Hills HS) and sophomore Mate Toth (Balatonalmadi, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Boarding School) each scored for the Waves. In the second, Pepperdine's goalkeeper, senior Zack Rhodes (Palm Desert, Calif./Palm Desert HS) did not let the Spartans get anything past him, while Justin Cowan (Rossmoor, Calif./Los Alamitos HS) and Chris Dilworth (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Thousand Oaks HS) scored, giving the Waves a 4-2 lead heading in to the second half. After the halftime break, the Waves really started to get going. Rhodes kept his ground, holding the Spartans to just one goal, while Dilworth and Asic scored their second goals of the game, and Sam Paur (Poway, Calif./Poway HS) getting his first of the tournament. With a 7-3 lead going into the fourth, the Waves didn't let up, with Sean Thomas (Covina, Calif./Loyola HS), Mark Urban (Budapest, Hungary/Diablo Valley College), and George Mooney (Whittier, Calif./La Serna HS) adding goals, cementing the 10-4 victory for the Waves.

The second game of the day was against Redlands, which the Waves won 13-1. The Waves were in control from early on, and would not let up in the game. Asic had four goals on the game, and Kenneth Keller had a hat trick. Both Artak Arzumanyan (Glendale, Calif./Glendale HS) and Urban had two goals, while Blake Brutocao (La Verne, Calif./Damien HS) and Zack Trotter (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif./Palos Verdes HS) each also had a goal. In the cage, Rhodes had eight saves, while Philippe Marco (Atherton, Calif./Sacred Heart Prep) had six.
