MALIBU, Calif. -- The 8th-ranked Pepperdine men's water polo team fell to No. 1 California on Friday, 8-6, in a hard-fought game. Chris Dilworth had two goals in the contest.

Early on, the game was very evenly matched. Cal struck first on a goal in the opening period, but Marko Asic scored his 21st goal of the year to even the game after one quarter of play. Kenneth Keller scored first in the second quarter, giving the Waves a 2-1 lead. After two quick Cal goals, Dilworth tied it up with a goal late in the half. Dilworth got his second goal of the game in the third quarter, but the Bears got three in the quarter, putting the Waves at a three-goal disadvantage heading to the fourth.
In the fourth, Cal got a quick goal, but Mark Urban answered to keep the Waves within two. Mate Toth kept the Waves in the game with a goal to make the score 7-6 with 2:20 left in the game, but a goal at the buzzer from Cal put the game away, with a final score of 8-6 in favor of the Bears.
