MALIBU, Calif. -- Pepperdine Men's Water Polo Head Coach Terry Schroeder announced the promotions of two coaches today. Merrill Moses, previously an assistant coach, has been promoted to associate head coach, and Mike Tragitt, previously the director of water polo operations, has been promoted to assistant coach. 2017 marks the first year that the NCAA has allowed a second assistant for men's water polo staffs.
Moses has been a member of the Pepperdine water polo coaching staff for the past five years, serving as an assistant coach since 2013, and as the interim co-head coach in 2012. Prior to coaching at Pepperdine, Moses played under Schroeder, both at Pepperdine, where he graduated in 1999, but also on two United States Olympic Teams in 2008 and 2012. Moses went on to play in his third Olympic Games in 2016.
As a Wave, Moses was a three-time All-American, garnering first team honors in 1997, while receiving second team honors in 1998, and honorable mention in 1996. In 1997, he was named one of three NCAA Tournament co-MVP's after helping Pepperdine capture it's first NCAA Water Polo National Championship.
"Merrill is here one hundred percent of the time," said Schroeder, who enters his 25th year as head coach for the Waves. "He is doing a lot and he is a huge part of this program, so we are really excited about bumping him up to associate head coach."
Tragitt has been a member of the Waves' staff for the past three years after graduating from Pepperdine in the spring of 2014. He played under Schroeder from 2009-2013, scoring 35 goals, amassing 76 assists, and 34 steals as a Wave.
"We love having Mike on board," said Schroeder. "He is going to help us with recruiting and with coaching, things he couldn't do last year as director of operations and I feel that will really be a great thing for our program."
