MALIBU, Calif.: The Pepperdine women's tennis team added standout transfer Jessica Failla for the 2017-18 campaign, as announced Head Coach Per Nilsson and Assistant Coach Lauren Embree on Tuesday afternoon. Failla joins the Waves after playing two seasons with University of Southern California.

"We are excited to have Jessica join our team," said Nilsson. "She adds experience to our team and we are ready to continue to help her with her game."

While at USC, Failla tabbed All-Pac 12 second team honors in her sophomore season, while amassing a 44-20 overall singles record and a 24-10 dual singles record. She posted a 34-15 overall doubles mark with a 20-11 dual doubles record. In 2017, she ranked as high as No. 33 in the ITA singles national rankings while playing in the top three positions for the women of Troy and reached the second round of the NCAA Singles Championship in 2017. In doubles, she and partner Rianna Valdes marked a 7-6 overall record, including a 5-3 output in the No. 1 position to rank No. 41 in the ITA doubles national rankings.

"I am beyond excited to be joining the team in the fall," said Failla. "Per Nilsson has built an amazing team that is passionate about working hard and getting better every day. I am so blessed to be given the opportunity to attend Pepperdine and I can't wait to compete for the Waves."

A standout in the classroom as well, Failla earned Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention status and the USC Academic GPA award in 2017.

Prior to joining the collegiate ranks, Failla performed highly in juniors, ranking No. 6 nationally in 18's and No. 4 in Southern California 18's rankings. She won the 16's level two national and the 18's winter national in her final year of juniors. In 2015, she was the National Hardcourts Sportsmanship winner and she also competed for teams in the Maze Cup, Zonals and Intersectional tournaments.

Failla graduated from Connections Academy in 2015, but also attended Ramona High School in Ramona, Calif. from 2011-14. While at Connections, she went undefeated at 36-0. Throughout her high school career, she was named San Diego Player of the Year on two occasions and won the CIF individuals for San Diego as a junior. She also garnered the 2013 San Diego Sportsmanship Player of the Year.
