MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine men's water polo standout Marko Asic was named to the United States' roster for the World University Games in Taipei next month.
Asic is one of 13 players on the squad. The action begins on August 18 against Japan and Team USA will also take on Russia and Romania in group play.
The World University Games, also known as the Universiade, are an international sports competition held every two years and hosted by different countries. The World University Games comprise a summer and winter games held in the same year, and is second only in importance to the Olympics. The 29th Summer World University Games will be held in Taipei, Aug. 19-30, with over 120 countries competing in 22 sports. The games feature current or recently graduated collegiate athletes from around the world.
Asic, a soon-to-be junior, led Pepperdine to a Golden Coast Conference Tournament title last year and was named the league's Player of the Year. In addition, Asic earned All-American second team status after scoring a team-high 69 goals and posting 13 assists. The Pepperdine attacker also trained with the U.S. Senior National Team this summer as one of three Waves to train with Team USA during their camp in Long Beach back in June.
