CoSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAM
MALIBU, Calif. - Matt Crowder and Aaron Barnett of the Pepperdine baseball team were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 team this week for their work in the classroom and on the field this season.
The CoSIDA Academic All-District program honors student-athletes with GPA's of 3.30 or higher, who have also been significant contributors to their team on the field. The All-District honorees will move on to the Academic All-American Ballot later this month.
It is the second straight year both Crowder and Barnett have earned Academic All-District honors and the third straight year for Barnett individually.
Crowder, an economics major, owns the highest GPA on the District 8 team (which includes Division I teams from Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Canada), with a 3.92 grade point average. The Pepperdine infielder has a .250 average this season, with 21 hits, eight RBI and 12 runs scored. Crowder has started 24 of the 26 games he has appeared in and owns a .967 fielding percentage.
Barnett, who is now a three-time honoree, has a 3.83 GPA as an economics major as well. He is the only designated hitter on the 11-player District 8 list. Barnett leads the Waves in batting average as a senior, hitting .298 this season, while posting team highs with 45 total hits and 12 doubles. He has 23 RBI and 17 runs scored while posting a .351 on-base percentage. Barnett has started all 38 games he has played in for Pepperdine this season.
