SUGAR GROVE, Illinois -- Cold and windy weather and an ultra-tough course continued to vex the Pepperdine women's golf team during Sunday's second round of the NCAA Championships, although sophomore Patricia Wong had a very good performance.

The Waves sit in 23rd place with a two-round total of a 74-over 650 (330-320) at the par-72 Rich Harvest Farms. The third and final round of stroke play will be Monday, with the top eight teams advancing to match play.

Pepperdine will tee off on #10 beginning at 6:45 a.m. CT (4:45 a.m. PT) along with Texas Tech and Oregon on Monday.

There wasn't any of the rain that plagued Friday's first round or that cancelled play on Saturday, but conditions remained difficult. The second round's average score was 77.80 (down from 80.77 in the first round).

Wong (Walnut, Calif./Walnut HS) bounced back from a tough first round and overcame a slow start to post the Waves' best round of the day, a 2-over 74. She double-bogeyed the first hole and bogeyed the third to quickly go 3-over. But she was flawless the rest of the way, accumulating 14 pars and a birdie on the par-4 14th hole. She moved up 33 spots on the leaderboard and is now tied for 90th at 162 (88-74).

Sophomore Hira Naveed (Perth, Australia) is still the top Wave overall, as she's tied for 32nd at 154 (74-80).

Freshman Momoka Kobori (Rangiora, New Zealand) is tied for 97th at 163 (82-81), junior Tatiana Wijaya (Jakarta, Indonesia) is tied for 130th at 173 (86-87) and junior Katherine Zhu (Vancouver, B.C.) is 132nd at 176 (91-85).

The Waves had only four birdies on Friday and had just four more on Sunday, two by Wijaya and one apiece by Kobori and Wong.

Pepperdine is making its 12th NCAA Championships appearance and first since 2012. The Waves boast eight top-10 finishes and four top-five results at the NCAAs, including a program-best second-place showing in 2003.
