First-Round Results

NAPA, California " The Pepperdine women's golf team got the Silverado Showdown underway on Sunday with a single round and the Waves have opened the tournament in a tie for 11th place.

Pepperdine shot an opening-round 301 at the par-72 Silverado Resort. All three West Coast Conference schools in the field posted a 301, with Gonzaga and San Francisco joining the Waves. The second round is Monday and the third and final round is Tuesday.

After a tough front nine saw the Waves' four scoring players go 14-over, they came back nicely and went 1-under on the back nine.

Junior Tatiana Wijaya (Jakarta, Indonesia) had the best round for the Waves, a 2-over 74 that put her into a tie for 31st place. She had three birdies during her round.

Sophomore Hira Naveed (Perth, Australia) and freshman Momoka Kobori (Rangiora, New Zealand) are both tied for 39th after 75s, junior Katherine Zhu (Vancouver, B.C.) is tied for 63rd at 77 and sophomore Patricia Wong (Walnut, Calif./Walnut HS) is tied for 83rd at 80.

Wong had three birdies while Kobori, Naveed and Zhu each had two.
