RANCHO SANTA FE, California -- After coming in as the seventh seed, the Pepperdine women's golf team won three of four matches to earn a third-place finish at San Diego State's March Mayhem.

The Waves played twice on Tuesday at The Farms Golf Club, falling to sixth-seeded BYU 3-1 in the semifinals before rebounding to defeat 12th-seeded Fresno State 3-2 in the third-place match.

Sophomore Hira Naveed (Perth, Australia) posted the Waves' victory against the Cougars, while junior Tatiana Wijaya (Jakarta, Indonesia), sophomore Patricia Wong (Walnut, Calif./Walnut HS) and freshman Momoka Kobori (Rangiora, New Zealand) provided the three victories against the Bulldogs.

Wong had the best tournament for the Waves with a 3-1 record. Kobori went 2-0 and led in her other two matches when they were abandoned.

The event was originally scheduled to end on Wednesday, but due to expected rainfall tomorrow, tournament host San Diego State moved both the third and fourth rounds to Tuesday. The Waves defeated 10th-seeded Washington State (3-1) and second-seeded Northwestern (3-0) on Monday to reach the semifinals.

Top-seeded USC won the tournament with a 3-0 victory over BYU in the final.

Pepperdine is next scheduled to host a three-team, single-round event this Saturday (March 25) against USC and Northwestern at Moorpark Country Club beginning at noon.
