RESULTS
SAN DIEGO, Calif.: The Pepperdine men's tennis team started the weekend down South with a dominating 6-1 victory over San Diego State at the Aztec Tennis Center this Thursday afternoon.
The Waves (4-5, 1-0 WCC) earned the doubles point with wins on courts one and two and continued winning ways with five-of-six singles wins over the Aztecs (4-5).
In doubles action, Pepperdine's No. 1 duo, senior Stefan Menichella (Santa Barbara, Calif./University HS) and sophomore Jack Van Slyke (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/Laurel Springs HS (Calif.)) defeated Marko Goles-Babic and Sander Gjoels-Andersen, 6-1.
Then on court two, senior Guilherme Hadlich (Balneário Camboriú, Brazil/Colégio Energia) and sophomore Gabriel Sidney (Curitiba, Parana, Brazil/Anglo Americano) clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 victory over Santiago Cevallos and Milen Ianakiev to secure the point and send the Waves into singles with the advantage.
Pepperdine absolutely dominated singles action, with wins on five-of-six courts to close out the match. Hadlich finished first with a crushing 6-1, 6-0 take down of Ianakiev. Then his doubles partner Sidney bested Rafael Almazan 6-1, 6-3 on court six to put the Waves up 3-0. The Aztecs picked up their first and only win of the afternoon with a three-set victory on court two to make their way onto the scoreboard.
Junior Lautaro Pane (Puerto Madryn, Argentina/SEADEA) clinched the overall win with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win over Gjoels-Anderson on court two. The Waves finished with two more victories on courts five and four, first by Van Slyke 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 over Joel Popov on five; and then by Menichella with a 6-3, 6-7 (6), 7-5 mark over Cevallos.
