Waves Fall in 2OT to Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. - The No. 8 Pepperdine men's water polo team dropped 2OT thriller to No. 6 UC Irvine 6-5 on Friday. Marko Asic led the Waves with two goals in the contest.

After a scoreless first overtime period, the Anteaters got a goal in the final five seconds to lift them over the Waves. The loss moved Pepperdine 17-11 on the year and 2-2 in Golden Coast Conference play. Irvine moved to 12-8 and 3-1.
Asic (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Dana Hill HS) scored two goals in the fourth quarter to push the game into overtime. Goals from Chris Dilworth (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Thousand Oaks HS), Mark Urban (Budapest, Hungary/Diablo Valley College) and George Mooney (Whittier, Calif./La Serna HS) kept the score close throughout the game.

The Waves conclude the regular season next Friday evening, hosting UC Santa Barbara at 6 p.m. The game will also be senior night, honoring the eight seniors.
