IRVINE, Calif. - The No. 10 and fifth-seeded Pepperdine men's water polo team fell short in their comeback against top-seeded Pacific on Saturday, 12-9, in the semifinals of the Golden Coast Conference Tournament. Chris Dilworth scored five of the Waves' nine goals.

Pepperdine entered the fourth quarter trailing the Tigers 10-7, but goals from Dilworth (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Thousand Oaks HS) and Mate Toth (Balatonalmadi, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Boarding School) were not enough, as Pacific answered with two goals of their own, felling the Waves in the semifinal matchup.
After Sean Thomas (Covina, Calif./Loyola HS) opened up scoring in the first, the Tigers came back with a 4-0 run, giving them a lead that they would refuse to relinquish. Dilworth scored twice in the second, along with Mark Urban (Budapest, Hungary/Diablo Valley College), while the Tigers got three goals of their own, taking a 6-4 lead into the half.
Dilworth had two more goals in the third, with Toth joining him in attempting to get even with the Tigers, who were stubborn in their defense and resilient in their offense all night. Zack Rhodes (Palm Desert, Calif./Palm Desert HS) had 10 saves for the Waves.
