MALIBU, Calif. -- The No. 9 Pepperdine men's water polo team mounted a big comeback against No. 2 UCLA before falling 8-7. Marko Asic and Mark Urban each had two goals for the Waves in the game.

Down 8-5 in the final quarter, the Waves got goals from Chris Dilworth (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Thousand Oaks HS) and Urban (Budapest, Hungary/Diablo Valley College), cutting the lead to just one. Dilworth got the ball again with 15 seconds to go, and with defenders on his back, fired a shot behind his back that gets past the keeper but hits off the post, cementing the 8-7 victory for the Bruins.
The first half of the game was mainly controlled by the Bruins, who led 7-4 at the half. Goals from Mate Toth (Balatonalmadi, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Boarding School), Coleman Carpenter (Pleasant Hill, Calif./College Park HS), and two from Asic (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Dana Hills HS) kept the Waves close. In the second half, the Waves held the Bruins to just one goal in the third, and held the Bruins scoreless in the fourth. Urban scored his first goal in the third quarter, the only score from the Waves in the third.
Zack Rhodes (Palm Desert, Calif./Palm Desert HS) made 17 saves on the day, improving his total on the year to 196.
