Final Results

SANTA ANA, California " The Pepperdine women's golf team nearly made a big comeback to win the UC Irvine Invitational on Tuesday, but instead settled for second place by just two shots. Patricia Wong and Momoka Kobori posted top-10 finishes.

After entering the final round in fourth place and 12 shots out of first, the Waves had the best round of the day (2-over) to get back into contention. Pepperdine finished with a two-day total of 881 (300-291-290) at the par-72 Santa Ana Country Club to wind up just behind Long Beach State (879).

This was the final tournament of the fall season for the Waves.

PLAYER SCORES

• Junior Patricia Wong (Walnut, Calif./Walnut HS) posted her second top-five finish in the last three tournaments, as she took fifth overall with a 1-over 217 (74-72-71). Her 1-under on Tuesday included four birdies, and she had a total of seven for the tournament. She had a total of 39 pars, second-best for the entire tournament.
• Sophomore Momoka Kobori (Rangiora, New Zealand) had a season-best showing, tying for sixth place with a 2-over 218 (75-73-70), though unfortunately she was playing as an individual and her score didn't count toward the team. She had four birdies in a 2-under round on Tuesday and had eight birdies overall.
• Junior Hannah Haythorne (Honolulu, Hawai'i/IMG Academy) had a career-best result, tying for 12th place at 221 (80-69-72). She had three birdies on Tuesday and a team-best 10 over the two days.
• Senior Katherine Zhu (Vancouver, B.C.) tied for 25th at 226 (75-76-75).
• Senior Tatiana Wijaya (Jakarta, Indonesia) also tied for 25th at 226 (78-74-74).
• Freshman Kayle Hunn (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./Saddleback Valley Christian School), playing as an individual, tied for 69th at 255 (84-85-86).
• Junior Hira Naveed (Perth, Australia) was disqualified in the second round but posted a pair of 1-over 73s in the other two rounds. She had four birdies today.

Pepperdine's spring season will begin on February 26-27 with the annual Bruin Wave Invitational, which will be held at San Luis Obispo Country Club.
