SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- In 11 games at Santa Clara since 1994, the Pepperdine women's soccer team was still looking for its first win at the perennial WCC power's home coming into play on Sunday. The Waves got that first win in style, handing the Broncos their worst loss at home since 2008 with a 5-0 win.
Pepperdine got on the board early with a penalty kick in the 16th minute and never let up, moving to 8-2-2 overall and 2-0-0 in conference play with the big early-season WCC win.
The Waves' defense was again phenomenal, posting its third shutout in a row and seventh in 12 games this year. Pepperdine has given up just five goals all season and has yet to allow more than one to an opponent. Brielle Preece (Livermore, Calif./Granada HS) came up with six saves to pick up her eighth win in net for the Waves.
Bri Visalli (San Jose, Calif./Valley Christian HS) got the Waves on the board with a penalty kick after drawing a foul in the box in the 16th minute, scoring her first of two goals on the day. Freshman Joelle Anderson (San Jose, Calif./Harker School) would score the next two goals, including one just seconds into the second half, to essentially put the game out of reach. Calista Reyes (Las Vegas, Nev./Sierra Vista HS) and Visalli added the exclamation points late in the game.
