Pepperdine Falls at Home to BYU

MALIBU, Calif. - The short-handed Pepperdine women's basketball team fell to first-place BYU at home on Thursday night, 73-47, in a West Coast Conference contest.

Kim Jacobs posted a career-high 16 points and Sydney Bordonaro scored 17 as the Waves were without their top two scorers, Yasmine Robinson-Bacote and Allie Green. Both regular starters were scratched from the lineup due to injury prior to Thursday's contest.

BYU did most of its damage from three, hitting 14 triples to sink Pepperdine. The Waves fall to 5-13 overall and 3-4 WCC with the loss, while the Cougars move to 11-7, 5-2 WCC.

BYU let it fly from long range in the first half, hitting 11-of-25 three-point attempts in the first half en route to a 41-12 lead at the break. The Waves led briefly after a Jacobs (Agoura Hills, Calif./Agoura HS) three early in the first quarter, but BYU came took the advantage back on the very next possession and never let it go.

Jacobs led Pepperdine with eight points off the bench in the first half and Makenzi Pulsipher had 16 points for the Cougars, including four three pointers. BYU scored 27 points in the second quarter.

The Waves finally found some points, scoring 15 in the third quarter, but couldn't close the gap as BYU scored 19 in the period. Bordonaro (Pittsburgh, Pa./Burrell HS) put up eight points in the third. Pepperdine would end up outscoring the Cougars 20-13 in the final quarter, but couldn't find the run it needed to pull close.

Jacobs was 6-for-11 from the floor and 3-for-6 from three on the way to eclipsing her previous career-high of 12 points. For Bordonaro, it was her eighth double-digit scoring night of the season. She was 8-for-8 from the free throw line.

Pulsipher finished with 19 points for the Cougars, who had five players score in double figures. Kalani Purcell posted a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

The Waves are back in action on Saturday, when Saint Mary's comes to Firestone Fieldhouse for a 1 p.m. game. That contest will be broadcast live on TheW.tv. After Saturday's home game, the Waves play four of their next five on the road.
