Waves Tie for Second at Golfweek Conference Challenge

WOLCOTT, Colorado " Katherine Zhu posted a career-best fourth-place finish to lead the Pepperdine women's golf team at the Golfweek Conference Challenge, and the Waves wrapped up the tournament with a tie for second place.

Pepperdine shot a three-day total of a 10-over 874 (291-289-294) at the par-72 Red Sky Golf Club. The Waves tied with Denver and finished eight shots back of San Diego State. Pepperdine has won this tournament, which features one team from 18 different Division I conferences, four times.

Zhu (Vancouver, B.C.) recorded the second top-10 finish of her career, and the junior finished a tournament below par for the first time with a 3-under 213 (71-70-72). Her final round included four birdies and she had 13 for the tournament (tied for third most in the tournament).

Sophomore Hira Naveed (Perth, Australia) and junior Tatiana Wijaya (Jakarta, Indonesia) posted top-20 finishes. Naveed took 13th place at 218 (73-71-74) and Wijaya tied for 14th at 219 (68-74-77).

Sophomore Hannah Haythorne (Honolulu, Hawai'i/IMG Academy) tied for 42nd place at 225 (79-74-72) and freshman Momoka Kobori (Rangiora, New Zealand) tied for 83rd at 242 (87-79-76).

Wijaya had a three-day total of 12 birdies, while Haythorne had 11 and Naveed posted 10.

The Waves' third tournament of the fall will be the Ron Moore Intercollegiate, hosted by Denver, from October 7-9.
