BERKELEY, Calif. - The No. 10 Pepperdine men's water polo team fell in its final game at the Mountain Pacific Invitational, losing 15-7 to No. 6 UC Santa Barbara.
The Waves fall to 8-4 on the year, while UC Santa Barbara moves to 7-3. The Waves finish the invitational in eighth place.
Pepperdine played even with the Gauchos through the first half, as the teams finished the second quarter tied at 4-4. Four straight goals from UC Santa Barbara made it an 8-4 game midway through the third quarter. The Waves were outscored 5-1 in the third period and never recovered.
Kenneth Keller (Long Beach, Calif./Los Alamitos HS) led the Waves with two goals in the game and five other Pepperdine players contributed a goal each. Reed Cotterill scored three times for UC Santa Barbara.
The Waves make their home debut next week, taking on No. 4 Pacific on Sunday, Oct. 2. Game time will be 12 p.m. at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool. Sunday's game will be Pepperdine's Golden Coast Conference opener as the Waves begin play in the new conference. The Waves also host UC Santa Barbara on Oct. 6.
